Abstract:Because of its excellent performance, modified nano precipitated barium sulfate is widely used in many industrial fields such as coatings, inks, color paint, plastics, paper making, rubber and so on, and has already become an indispensable high-grade functional filler in the industry.
This report focuses on the application of modified nano precipitated barium sulfate in pigment paint of acrylic acid system, and discusses the effects of adding two different barium sulfate in different color paints on the related properties such as gloss, transparency, color rendering, weather resistance, anti-settling and reflectivity. The results show that the addition of modified nano precipitated barium sulfate can promote the dispersion of pigment, reduce the cohesion, improve the practical application performance, and then get a bright film coating effect, better maintain and show the original color of pigment, and at the same time make the product more competitive in technology and price.

Introduction
Ordinary precipitated barium sulfate is white or gray white crystalline powder, which has the characteristics of high whiteness, high specific gravity, strong chemical inertia, good stability and capability of absorbing harmful rays. The modified nano precipitated barium sulfate has more excellent advantages. In this report, by making use of the special advantages of the specially treated modified nano precipitated barium sulfate on different pigments, such as dispersion, pigment stability, color rendering, weather resistance, gloss, anti-sedimentation, preservation and color retention, etc., a sharp contrast was made in paint colors. It can be seen that the excellent performance of modified nano precipitated barium sulfate is commendable in the application of paint.
1 Experimental part
1.1 Main raw materials
Epoxy modified acrylic resin: A2560, commercially available products
Amino Resin: 582, commercially available products
Modified nano precipitated barium sulfate: FB-100, Yunfu Hongzhi New Materials Co., Ltd.
Ordinary precipitated barium sulfate: particle size 0.7µm, commercially available products
Phthalocyanine blue pigment: phthalocyanine Blue BS, commercially available products
Phthalein green pigment: phthalein Green G, commercially available products
Sun-resistant red pigment: 3132, commercially available products
Leveling agent: TEGO450, Evonik Industries AG
Defoamer: TEGO900, Evonik Industries AG
Dispersant: BYK163, BYK-Chemie GmbH
Xylene: analytical reagen, commercially available industrial products
Glass bead: 1.0mm, commercially available industrial products

2 Experimental method of modified nano precipitated barium sulfate FB-100 for color paste
2.1 Basic formula process of color paste
Firstly, the acrylic resin, pigment powder, modified nano precipitated barium sulfate, dispersant, defoamer and xylene are dispersed for 20 minutes at 1000 rpm by a dispersing machine, so that the slurry is fully wetted. Then add glass beads (slurry: glass beads = 1: 1) and grind and disperse at a high speed of 2500 r/min for 60 minutes. After the fineness reaches 15-20µm, it will be tested.

2.2 Basic formula process of transparent paint
The above ground slurry is mixed with acrylic resin according to a certain proportion, and the mixture is evenly stirred at 1200r/min to prepare the paint to be tested.

2.3 Make experimental comparison template
Prepare paint film on transparent glass sheet with 150µm coater, dry it naturally for 30 minutes, then put it in 130℃ oven for drying and curing for 30 minutes, and then take it out and cool it to room temperature.
3 Results and discussion
3.1 Comparison of gloss
According to the above experimental method, the effects of different barium sulfate on the gloss of paint are compared, and the experimental results are shown in Table 4.

It can be seen from Table 4 and Fig.2 that the color paint with modified nano-precipitated barium sulfate FB-100 and ordinary barium sulfate has high glossiness, good surface effect and excellent leveling property on the premise of equivalent dispersion fineness.
3.2 Comparison of color rendering effect and transparency
The L, a, b values and whiteness values of different samples were analyzed and tested by colorimeter, and the experimental results are shown in Table 5.

It can be seen from Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 that FB-100 added with modified nano-precipitated barium sulfate has better permeability, better color rendering effect and higher vividness compared with color paint added with ordinary barium sulfate, and has no obvious influence on hue.

3.3 Comparison of weather resistance results
By using xenon lamp aging test chamber, the aging resistance of different samples was tested for 6h, and the gloss changes of paint films were compared. The experimental comparison data are shown in Table 6 and Table 7.

It can be seen from Fig. 6 and Fig. 7 that the improvement of weather resistance by adding modified nano-precipitated barium sulfate FB-100 is obviously better than that by adding ordinary barium sulfate.
3.4 Comparison of differences in anti-settling properties
The storage stability of the transparent paint of 2.2 was observed experimentally for 30 days, and the experimental results are shown in Fig.8.

It can be seen from Fig.8. that the addition of modified nano-precipitated barium sulfate FB-100 has obviously improved the anti-settling property, and at the same time, it has reduced a series of problems, such as floating color and blooming of color paint.
4 Experimental conclusion
4.1 After adding modified nano-precipitated barium sulfate FB-100 into the paint, the gloss and color retention of the paint film can be improved.
4.2 Adding modified nano-precipitated barium sulfate FB-100 into the paint, which can make the pigment disperse more evenly and improve the color rendering effect of the pigment.
4.3 Using modified nano-precipitated barium sulfate FB-100 to replace some pigments in an appropriate range, which will not affect the color concentration of color paste and paint.
4.4 Adding modified nano-precipitated barium sulfate FB-100 into the color paint can improve the anti-settling property of the paint, and improve the anti-flocculation, floating and blooming problem of the color paint.
